On August 2, 2006 a tornado came to my Grandpa’s cottage on Halls Lake in Haliburton. Hundreds of trees were blown down. The tornado started in the North-West. My Mom, my sister Julianna and I were in the cottage at the time. Our cousins had just left and my Mom predicted a bad storm. About half an hour after our cousins left, strong winds began to pick up and it started to rain. We left the windows open because otherwise pressure will build up inside the cottage. Then Mom calmly told us to go under the table. We all crawled under. Julianna sat in my Mom’s lap and started to cry, which scared me even more, because it just added the noise around us. I couldn’t see outside, but I heard a couple of cracks where the tree trunks snapped, and loud rushing noises! It lasted for what seemed like a long time, but was probably only about 5 minutes. When the noise finally stopped, we came out from under the table. What we saw was unbelievable! Just outside our window were toppled trees with 8 feet tall roots! There were trees lying across the path that lead to the boathouse too. Trees landed on the dock and our new kayak. It was a very scary experience!
