GraceSummer Newsletter 2007: My Week at the Best Camp in the World

Grace Brown came to Canada and PEI in May 2005 at the age of 8. Some readers met her in the Summer 2005 newsletter. Her story was named The Coming of Yuqi. Two and a half years on, we asked the now 11 year old Grace to tell us about herself. She offered this Summer story

Camp Seggie is a fun place." Seggie" is short for Camp Segunakadeck which means "Little Ground Nut" in the native MicMac language on Prince Edward Island, where I live.

Camp Seggie is fun because we meet new friends and play games, and just get a break from everything. The best part though is when we learn about God’s love and that God loves everyone, which makes me feel good.

We have skills and activity time which can be rock climbing, skim boarding, outdoor cooking, where I learned to make a cake on. a campfire, the swimming pool, archery, and drama, plus a dozen other activities you can choose from.

I made lots of new friends the week I went. One of those friends was Sarah. She just came from China four months ago. Her and her mom have a cottage on P.E.I. and they come every summer. She likes to play games too. I would like to be her friend if she would like to be mine. At camp Seggie you get up at 7 o'clock in the morning which is not fun. We have to be ready for breakfast at 8 o'clock which is not so bad at all. Then we go to chaplet and than we have skills and activity time. You remember what I said about skills and activity time. At 11:30 we play a game and at 12:00 we have lunch and then we have rest time "where you can read or just rest" and then we have skills and activity time again , then free time where we can go to the pool or get tuck, which is where we can get a treat for the day, "You can spend up to $3.00 a day on junk food or snacks" Anyway at 4:00 we have games again and at 5:30 we have supper. Later on after supper we have a campfire every night where we sing songs and tell stories and get to know people better. We laugh and it's a really great time. Then it's off to bed. I love Camp Seggie.

Everyone is so nice and they are sooooo much fun. We raise money for missionaries that work all over the world and one of the counselors said he would shave his head if we raised a certain amount of money so we did and he shaved his heads because we raised so much money. It was a great week.
