Fall Newsletter 2006: A fun weekend…

I would like to tell you about a busy, fun weekend I had recently. My Sister (Kyra age 6) and I have been doing Tae Kwon Do for about 1 year. My instructor asked me if I wanted to take part in the Eastern Canadian Championships held at Bell high school. I said yes, but I wasn’t sure if I was ready or what would happen as it was my first time going to a tournament.

I saw a lot of people from my Do Jang (Tae Kwon Do school) signed up so I did too. That morning I was nervous and had to rush out the door to arrive at the right time. When I got there I saw a lot of people, and in one corner I saw all these metals and people standing around.

Once it started they divided us into divisions, by ages, boys and girls, belts and Do Jangs. For my belt, green stripe, I competed against another green stripe who was much taller than me, but very nice. We had to spar and do patterns against each other. In the end they awarded us metals, I got two silver metals for second place.

It was a great day, I had lots of fun and my sister got two gold metals for first place. I would recommend Tae Kwon Do as a fun sport to do.
