EmilySpring Newsletter 2006

Hello my name is Emily. I am nine years old and in grade four. Have you been in a French Speaking Contest? If not, I am going to tell you a story about mine.

It all started one afternoon when my class had French. My teacher asked us if we wanted to do some French speaking. I rose my hand and told her I was going to write about my three adopted sisters and myself. The next day the French teacher helped me get started. When it was completed it had to be translated into French. Then I had to start practicing to the class.

Finally the day came when other kids and myself from different schools went to St. Mary’s Parish Hall to present our speeches. Boy was I nervous. After I was done presenting my speech the judges asked me some questions about my sisters. After the grade four to six finished they announced the awards. I had come in second out of all the grade fours. Boy was I proud of myself and so was my family!

EmilyMy Family and My New Sister

Fall Newsletter 2005:

Hi. My name is Emily. I am nine years old. In this story I am going to tell you about my family and my new sister. So lets start. My family is a family of six. With my mom Barb, my dad Jerry, and my sisters Rebecca(6), Sarah(4) and Grace(2). Together my family goes shopping, watches television, eats meals, plays together, sometimes argues with each other, and even reads.

In Spring 2006 our family will be a family of seven because my mom and Rebececca are going to China to pick up our new baby sister. We started by Rebecca getting her shots. Then we had to get Rebecca`s blood taken. Boy was she loud. She screamed and screamed non-stop until it was done. The blood working was just for seeing what shots Rebecca needed to experience.

My mom is taking Rebecca to China this time because I went last year to pick up Grace with mom so Rebecca can have the opportunity to see China. The name for our new baby sister is Claire. Rebecca is really looking forward to going to China. I gave Rebecca some advance warning like, the food on the plane is not that good, the toilets in stores and malls are like holes in the ground, and their milk is warm. I told her all these warnings but she just said it`s okay, so I guess she does not mind. When she is gone I will really miss her because I always play with her. I willreally miss my mom because my mom always takes care of us the best. And I know they will miss me too! But they will come home to Canada with Claire. It will be so that we are all together again. And I will also be happy to be a family of seven!. We are all looking forward to meeting our new baby sister Claire.

EmilyMaking Pizza

Spring  Newsletter 2005:

Emily (8) of Waterloo has volunteered a story about school. You can write to Emily at the FOI address.

Hi my name is Emily. My family and I want to tell you about how my family and I make it. We all go to the grocery store and get these following ingredients:

Fresh Pizza dough, Spaghetti Sauce, Pepperoni, Mozzarella cheese, Pineapple, Mushrooms, Bacon, and Hot peppers.
When we have all these things we like on our pizza, my dad and I roll out the dough with flour until we get the proper size of the pan. But first we have to grease the pan so the dough doesn’t stick. Then we spice up the sauce until you think it tastes wonderful. My mom, my sister Rebecca and I like to sample the sauce. My dad doesn’t like us doing this because we sample the sauce, the grated cheese and pepperoni and nobody is hungry when it is time for dinner. Then my dad and I put the sauce all over the dough if there is enough if not we have to make more. Then I grate cheese all pover the sauce. Then I pick our favourite toppings (mine are simple, just chees) onto the pizza. Then I get my dad to put it into the oven to cook until the cheese starts to bubble and our dough is brown not black. Now we are ready to enjoy our pizza. And the best thing about our pizza is we made it.

Fall Newsletter 2004: About School

Hi my name is Emily. I am 8 years old. I go to St. Luke Catholic School in Waterloo, Ontario. I am in grade 3. Now I will take you along with my story about school. I like school because it is fun, exciting, hard and easy. My favourite subjects are writing, math, reading, science, problem solving and social studies. My most favourite one is math because I like learning division, multiplication, addition and subtraction. School is fun also because I watch a girl named Carly at recess because she can hear but can’t speak and for her to have fun I play with her. My teacher’s name is Miss Cronin. She is nice teacher because she let’s us learn new things, like why animals migrate in the winter. On every Tuesday I have an art club with Mr. Wonka. At the book fair at my school I bought 3 books called The Mermaid Secret, The Secret Unicorn and Katie Kazoo Switcheroo Who’s Afraid of Fourth Grade? In science we do lots of experiments like magnet force and how you can make your own magnets. In problem solving we do problems that are very fun and exciting.. Last year at school we had to write letters to people who play sports. I wrote to Yao Ming who plays basketball and his team is called Houston Rockets. I am still waiting for him to write back. I think school is a blast.
