My Trip to China

In late May, Jesse (9) Sawatsky  of Maidstone SK travelled to China with his parents, Henry & Joan, to meet his sister Rosalee. We asked Jesse to write a trip report.

In May I went with my parents to adopt my 28 month old sister, Rosalee Tingting Sawatzky from Nanning.  While in Nanning we enjoyed watching a tribal drama of how a woman gets a man for marrying.  JesseI liked the museum where we saw some extra big drums!

The first few days my sister cried a lot, but soon settled down.  As "googoo"

(brother) I took her for many stroller rides.  At the mall, Rosalee was so excited to get a pair of squeaky shoes!

I want to share something funny that happened to my Dad.  One afternoon in Beijing my Dad took Rosalee for a stroller ride.  A truck pulled up right beside them and out jumped  2 soldiers with machine guns.  Dad "froze" for a minute and then continued pushing my sister back to the hotel. It wasn't until later, when talking with Fay, our tour guide, that Dad found out it was two guards of a Brinks truck! We all had a good laugh.

The things I enjoyed about China was climbing the Great Wall, riding the bus, watching the acrobatic show, playing with other kids in our group and bartering for some Game Boy games!

My parents enjoyed eating some frog's legs, but I wasn't quite as brave. I  enjoyed the various meats, noodles & rice. We did find McDonalds too!

Before leaving China they had a Good-Bye China party with Mr. Li, the magician.  He was great!

The best thing that happened to me in China was getting my sister, Rosalee Tingting!  My parents and I are happy with our little "China doll"!
