Meeting my New Siste

My name is Olivia and I am 10 years old. Like my new sister and my new friend, I was born in China In October 2008.

I travelled with my mother, Amanda, and our friend, Elaine, to get my new sister. She was visiting us in Nanchang. My little sister name is XiaoRan  and she turned 2 years old on October 17. She was very tiny when we met. I soon discovered we had a lot in common, especially food. Like me she loves noodles, rice and congee (Yulin took us out  one day and the food was great! Thanks Yulin). Both me and my little sister looked forward to the hotel breakfast buffet. We both woke up early and were usually the first there (6:30 am). I was able to speak some

Mandarin to XiaoRan and to my surprise she seemed to understand what I was saying.

There was another surprise for me in Nanchang. I met a new friend who was meeting her little sister. Hannah is 7½ years old. She was with her parents, Mirele and Daisy. Her new sister’s name is Abigail.

Hannah and I quickly became good friends. In Nanchang which was very hot, we spent a lot of time swimming. While in Beijing and travelling on the bus we sat together and played with the DS game. We both agreed that being “big” sisters is sometimes hard.

Often my little sister insisted that I feed her. I also tried helping her practicing walking and sometimes I even helped change her diaper. It seems to me that big sisters often spend time waiting for something to do with little sisters like getting dressed or getting food, etc. But that was okay because Hannah and I looked forward to planning the day together. We both love shopping and Hannah’s mother is a good shopper!!

I was hoping that Hannah lives very close to me in Toronto. We have been getting together with the parents and sisters and going out to Chinese dinner (Hannah’s mother is Chinese and knows all the good foods to order). We are planning to celebrate Chinese New Year together.

I had an outfit made especially for me while I was in China and can’t wait to wear it.!

For now, Hannah and I are back at school and only see each other every couple of weekends. Both our new sisters are growing and seem to be very happy. I hope my new friend and our sisters know each other for a long time.
